Hall 10 / Booth G05

MEDICA is the world’s largest event for the medical sector. Key topics of the fair are, among others, laboratory equipment and the entire range of clinical analysis technology. On this year's MEDICA, Fraunhofer IGB will show the diagnosis of infectious microorganisms using new high-throughput sequencing methods. We look forward to your visit at the joint Fraunhofer booth.

Next-generation diagnostics

The rapid development of high-throughput sequencing technologies (next-generation sequencing, NGS) has opened up new dimensions in nucleic acid analytics. At Fraunhofer IGB, we use NGS technologies for a wide range of applications such as de-novo sequencing of medically relevant bacterial and fungal strains, analyses of transcription profiles, identification of relevant genes, and screening for biomarkers for diagnosis. Fraunhofer IGB offers you a one-stop shop, from sample preparation to bioinformatics.

In a clinical study with sepsis patients we have shown, that microbial pathogens can be diagnosed unambiguously and within just 24 hours by means of high-throughput sequencing of their genetic makeup and special bioinformatics evaluation algorithms.

Advantages of NGS sepsis diagnosis platform

  • Identification of sepsis pathogens within 24 hours
  • Rapid one-step identification of bacteria, viruses and fungi
  • Simultaneous identification of antibiotic resistances possible
  • Diagnostic NGS platform provides qualitative as well as quantitative results
