Chemical Analytics

The Analytical Services group of the Fraunhofer IGB offers physico-chemical analytical services for internal use and for external clients from industry, municipal authorities and universities.

Modern technical equipment and motivated qualified staff guarantee a fast handling of the project as well as high quality. Our analytical methods are oriented to GLP, DIN/ISO and EN guidelines.

Range of services

By developing new applications Fraunhofer offers a competitive advantage for ist customers in the fields of life sciences and biotechnology, in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries, the electronics industry or the areas of energy and environment. Often, there is a lack of standardized analytical methods. In such cases, we develop and exactly validate test methods that precisely meet our customer’s requirements. We provide reliable test results on the basis of  precise measurement data, even if no legal or officially prescribed methods, no methods accredited by associations or other standardized methods exist. Through individual counseling and detailed documentation, we offer you real insight as our customers.


Our Chemical Analytics processes your inquiry with dedication and on schedule. An efficient quality management system guarantees reliable test results. The German Accreditation Body for Chemistry GmbH (DACH) has accredited our chemical and chemical-physical test analytics according to DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025 (DAR registration number D-PL-11140-23-00). In addition, we adhere to GMP standards.

Main focus on method development

One of our main activities is the development of new analytical methods for specific problems especially if regulated or standardized processes do not yet exist. Accompanying chemical analyses and evaluation of processes contribute to the optimization of products and production processes. This is also achieved by interdisciplinary cooperation within the IGB.

Example of projects

Determination of fatty acids in the erythrocyte membrane

To avoid blood clotting and thrombi formation in extracorporeal treatment methods, heparins are generally used as hemodialyzers. The long-term influence of heparin on the enzyme lipoprotein lipase can lead to the formation or deterioration of fat metabolism disorders in chronic dialysis patients.

Pesticide residues on cotton textiles

On behalf of the Institute of Textile Technology and Process Engineering Denkendorf, cotton that was processed under different conditions and for different applications was tested for residues of insecticides, fungicides and ethylene glycol as a conversion product of ethylene oxide.

Element-specific analysis of nanoparticles – detection in complex media

Engineered nanoparticles can be found in products such as electronic and optical devices, in paints and varnishes, adhesives and textiles, as well as in contrast agents for medical purposes, cosmetics, food packaging and even in food products. The extensive use of nanoparticles also leads to increased environmental contamination.
