Welcome to Fraunhofer CBP

In view of the finite nature of fossil resources, the growing demand for resources and climate change, the use of renewable raw materials has acquired great significance. The Fraunhofer Center for Chemical-Biotechnological Processes CBP in Leuna focuses on the combination of biotechnological processes with chemical processes, and with its pilot scale technical equipment it closes the gap between the laboratory and industrial implementation.

By providing the infrastructure and technical facilities as well as a staff of highly qualified experts, it enables partners from research and industry to develop and scale up processes for the utilization of renewable and petrochemical raw materials to production-relevant dimensions, and also to accelerate process developments. Focus is laid on the use of vegetable oils, the disintegration of lignocelluloses and the production of technical enzymes.

Fraunhofer CBP is a branch of the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB in Stuttgart.
