Sustainable Catalytic Processes | Senior Scientist Microbial Catalysis

In April 2018, Dr. Jonathan Thomas Fabarius joined Fraunhofer IGB. Since 2019, he has been working as a Senior Scientist in Microbial Catalysis and provides long-term experience in biotechnology within an academic and industrial environment. He acquired his PhD in the field of systems biotechnology and microbial strain development at Saarland University.  He completed his studies in technical biology at the University of Stuttgart, turning in his diploma thesis at BASF SE in Ludwigshafen am Rhein in 2013.

His research interests cover projects related to systems of biotechnology and metabolic engineering. Combining metabolic modeling with genetic engineering and bioprocess development is the focus of his work. In particular, Dr. Fabarius is pursuing the microbial utilization of CO2 into value-added products in process cascades via C1-intermediates.
