Every year, Procter & Gamble awards a sponsorship prize for outstanding degree thesis work in the field of process technology and technical cybernetics at the University of Stuttgart.

Sven Knecht was awarded the third Hugo Geiger Prize 2003 and the Procter & Gamble Sponsorship Prize 2003 for his thesis "The micro-structured depositing of bio-functionalised nano-particles via photo-lithography, micro-contact dies and micro-arrayers on glass, silicone and gold surfaces". Knecht succeeded in applying as a mono-layer bio-chemically functionalized nano-particles onto various bio-chip surfaces.
