Weber, Achim Dr.

Functional Surfaces and Materials

Dr. Achim Weber studied chemistry at the University of Stuttgart. From 2000 to 2019, he held a post-doctoral position at the Institute of Interfacial Process Engineering and Plasma Technology at the University of Stuttgart.

He worked as group manager at Fraunhofer IGB for Particle-based Systems & Formulations from 2006 to 2019, and was deputy head of the department of Interfacial Engineering and Material Science from 2011 to 2019. Since 2019, he has been deputy head of the Innovation Field Functional Surfaces and Materials.

His research interests include the formation and understanding of smart and nanoscopic materials and their surfaces, particle applications in various fields, additive manufacturing and bioprinting. Together with his group, he is working on the development of bio-based materials and the formulation of bioinks, which can be used to fabricate bioartificial tissue equivalents and coatings that mimic the native tissue matrix.

Furthermore, Dr. Achim Weber is ombudsperson and data protection officer of Fraunhofer IGB.
