Zu den Forschungsschwerpunkten von Thomas Hahn zählen die Gewinnung von natürlichen Polysacchariden wie Cellulose, Latex und Chitin aus nachwachsenden Rohstoffen und deren Aufreinigung. Ein weiterer Fokus seiner Arbeit ist die chemische und biotechnologische Modifikation der Polysaccharide und die entsprechende analytische Charakterisierung.
